Deploying Remote Server Management Programs for Windows 8 Using ConfigMgr 2019
September 9, 2012 by Peter van der Woude
SerManTilThis week I Would like to devote a post remote server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows 8 using ConfigMgr 2012. In my own opinion it should be deployed utilizing the program version, even though the installer is only available as a Windows Update Standalone Installer. This gives me the possibility to show some fundamentals about the software in ConfigMgr 2012 and in regards to the Detection Rules and the Prerequisites.
In a step-by-step way I shall undergo the wizards of Creating and deploying an application. Together with the step about the Detection Rule I will give a little extra explanation during this, as it has to be manually generated and there are alternatives for that.
Library > Review > Application Management > Applications, click Create > Create Application and the Create Application Wizard will reveal.
On the General page, choose Manually specify the application Information and click on Next.
Program and click on Next.
In the Install Application task sequence action instead of deploying it manually to make it possible to use it.
On the Program Catalog page, fill in the data About the program and click Next.
On the Create, click Insert and the Deployment Types page Deployment Sort Wizard will show.
On the General page, choose Manually define the installation Type information and click Next.
On the General Information page, fill in the data About the deployment click Next and type.
On the Content page, navigate to the Content location, use as Msu /quiet /norestart, use as Uninstall Program wusa.exe /uninstall Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64. Msu /quiet /norestart and click Next.
There are multiple choice to Check for the setup. The most important thing to remember for detection rules would be to find something unique for that particular installation. Here I shall give two great choices for detecting RSAT for Windows 8:
DetRuleRSATSelect Add Clause… and the Detection Rule popup Will show (see picture). On the Detection Rule Popup, pick as Setting Type File System, fill as Path %WinDir%\System32\, fill as File or folder name ServerManager.exe, select The file system setting has to satisfy the following rule to signify the existence of this application, pick as Property Model, pick as Operator Equals, fill in as Value 6.2.9200.16384 and click Ok.
Select Use a custom script to detect the presence of this Deployment type, ScrEdiVbsclick Edit along with the Script Editor popup will reveal (see picture). On the Script Editor popup choose Script Sort VBScript, use the script.
Set objWMIService = GetObject(“winmgmts:\\” & StrComputer &”\root\CIMV2″)
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery(“SELECT * FROM
In case colItems.Count = 0 Then
Wscript.StdOut.Write”The program is installed”
Back on the Detection Strategy page click .
On the User Experience page, select the wanted experience Preferences and click on Next.
Notice Resource is device; select as Logon demands Whether there is a user logged on to make it possible to utilize it and differently install for user.
ReqRSATOn click Add the Prerequisites page and the Produce Requirement popup will show (see picture).
